My Art

The Garden of Heavenly Delights was created in a way by chance. Originally I intended to draw my model in some kind of a formal classical style. Basically to prove to myself that I could do such a thing, like draw a model life size, one to one, and realistic. All plans failed as we started work. She was a night nurse. While trying hold this stiff classical pose, parts of her body would start falling asleep. Over and over this kept happening as the session went on. After awhile I got frustrated and asked her to just keep moving. That worked. She did not stop moving for half an hour. I followed her movements with just light sketchy lines. At the end of the session I had a cloud of these lines all over the sheet.

Don´t know why, but at the time I thought I could create a picture in this way with just the sketchy, swirling, movement of lines, drawn from a model in motion. But I did. Then it took me eight months to get it done. This was the first time I ever worked like this. The rest is history. Most of the images I create now, come about with this method generally.

Lines came about when I was just people watching, one afternoon on the streets of Munich. People are normally always loaded with emotions. As an artist one should try to remain objective where people are involved. Nearly everyone you meet is wearing a layered mask of emotions, like a time bomb that could blow up in your face if you´re not careful. Being careful is to remain objective, clear. Observing and absorbing. Letting it all go in the work. One could easily get caught up in all these collected emotions and not get anything useful out of it. No model, just me drawing lines with the feelings of the day.

Four Figures was done specifically for a fashion show. Took me three nights to do it, and in the end was never used. So much for consumer art.

With Engulfed, I worked with a model who was a dancer. She tried many different poses before I decided on the one in the final picture. The background came of its own accord.
